Solute-volatilization interference
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011013
An interference in flame atomic spectrometry in which a concomitant substance changes how fast the dry aerosol particles volatilize, so that the analyte is released incompletely and fewer free atoms form. A classic case is phosphate lowering the calcium signal in an air-acetylene flame because a thermally stable calcium phosphate forms. Adding a releaser such as lanthanum, which combines preferentially with the interferent, reduces it.
