SM-interference

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010955

An interference in which a foreign substance S gives a signal by a mechanism similar to that of the analyte M, so that the procedure and apparatus used cannot tell the two signals apart. Examples are a second metal ion that forms a coloured complex with the same reagent and absorbs at the same wavelength, or a line from another element that overlaps the analyte line in atomic emission. The interferent signal adds to the analyte signal rather than altering the response of the analyte.
