Gain

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013116

The ratio of the output signal to the input signal in a detection system, indicating the amplification factor. In spectrochemical analysis, it quantifies how much a detector multiplies the initial signal produced by incident radiation. For a photomultiplier tube, gain can be on the order of 10^6 to 10^7.
