Spectrochemical carrier
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011156
A substance added to a sample for arc or spark emission analysis that produces a gas or vapour, which sweeps the vapourised sample into the zone where it is excited. Carbon is a standard example, because in an air atmosphere it forms carbon dioxide. In carrier distillation a compound such as gallium oxide is mixed in, and its vapour carries trace elements into the discharge.
