Carbon loading

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001643

The amount of carbonaceous material present in a chromatographic stationary phase, expressed as a percentage of the total mass of the packing material. This value indicates the density of the organic ligands bonded to the support, which influences the retention characteristics of analytes. Higher carbon loading generally leads to increased retention for nonpolar compounds in reversed-phase liquid chromatography.
