Catalyst-transfer cross-coupling polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001710
A chain-growth polymerization in which every propagation step is a metal-catalyzed cross-coupling, such as nickel-catalyzed Kumada coupling of a monomer carrying both a halide and an organomagnesium group. After each coupling the catalyst stays on the chain and moves along the conjugated backbone to the new terminal carbon-halogen bond instead of dissociating, so molar mass follows the monomer-to-catalyst ratio and dispersity is low. Regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) is its best-known product.
