Centromere

A constricted region on a chromosome that serves as the attachment point for spindle fibers during cell division. It is composed of specific DNA sequences and proteins that form the kinetochore, which mediates chromosome segregation. This region is visible as a narrow indentation on a metaphase chromosome.
