Chain entanglement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001839

The topological interpenetration and intertwining of polymer chains in a concentrated solution or melt, resembling a macroscopic entanglement of ropes. These physical interactions restrict the movement of individual chains, significantly influencing the rheological and mechanical properties of the polymer material. The entanglement molecular weight is a characteristic parameter for a given polymer.
