Chelation solvent extraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001928

A liquid-liquid extraction technique where a metal ion in an aqueous phase reacts with an organic chelating agent to form a neutral, hydrophobic complex. This complex then partitions into an immiscible organic solvent, separating the metal from other components in the aqueous phase. The efficiency of this method depends on the stability of the chelate and its solubility in the organic solvent.
