Ion-pair extraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006143

A liquid-liquid extraction technique where an ionizable analyte in an aqueous phase forms an electrically neutral ion pair with a suitable counter-ion. This neutral complex then becomes soluble in an immiscible organic solvent, allowing its separation from other components in the aqueous phase. The efficiency of extraction depends on the hydrophobicity of the ion pair.
