Chelotropic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001931
An alternative, etymologically more correct spelling of cheletropic reaction, a pericyclic process in which two new sigma bonds form to one atom of a reactant, or two sigma bonds to that atom break, while the partner reacts at the terminal atoms of a conjugated system. The coordination number of the single atom changes by two, as when sulfur dioxide adds to butadiene to give 3-sulfolene.
