Chemical dependency

A state of physiological and psychological reliance on a psychoactive substance, characterized by compulsive drug-seeking behavior and continued use despite harmful consequences. This condition develops as the body adapts to the presence of the substance, leading to withdrawal symptoms upon cessation. It is distinct from physical dependence, which refers only to the physiological adaptation.
