Dependence

A state where an individual requires a substance or activity to function normally, experiencing withdrawal symptoms if it is discontinued. This can be physical, involving physiological adaptations, or psychological, characterized by compulsive use despite negative consequences. Dependence is a key aspect of addiction and substance use disorders.
