Class (b) metal ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002099
A metal ion characterized by its preference for ligands containing sulfur, phosphorus, or heavier halogens as donor atoms, indicating a soft acid character. These ions are typically larger, less charged, and more easily polarized than class (a) metal ions. Examples include copper(I), silver(I), and mercury(II) ions.
