Acetylides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000128
A class of chemical compounds derived from a terminal alkyne, such as acetylene, by the replacement of one or both of its acidic hydrogen atoms with a metal cation. These compounds contain the acetylide anion (C₂²⁻) or a mono-substituted derivative (RC≡C⁻). Many heavy metal acetylides, like those of silver or copper, are known to be explosive when dry.
