Styphnates
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013604
Compounds formed from styphnic acid, a strongly acidic trinitro derivative of resorcinol, as either salts or charge-transfer complexes. Metal salts form when the acid reacts with a base or metal oxide, and the electron-poor ring also pairs with aromatic donors in charge-transfer complexes. Lead styphnate is a primary explosive, very sensitive to shock, friction and static, used in priming mixtures for detonators.
