Collector slit
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002210
An aperture positioned in front of the detector in a magnetic sector mass spectrometer or other scanning mass analyzer. It physically blocks ions that do not have the correct trajectory to pass through, allowing only ions of a selected mass-to-charge ratio to reach the detector. The width of the collector slit directly affects the instrument's mass resolution, with narrower slits providing higher resolution at the cost of reduced ion signal intensity.
