Faraday cup collector

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004344

A device used in mass spectrometry and other vacuum systems to measure the intensity of an ion or electron beam. It consists of a conductive metal cup that intercepts the charged particles, which are then neutralized, producing a measurable electric current directly proportional to the number of particles arriving per unit time. This current is measured by a sensitive electrometer connected to the cup.
