Combinatorial joining
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002268
The molecular process that creates antigen receptor diversity by randomly selecting and linking one gene segment of each type (V, D, and J) to form a complete variable-region exon. This somatic recombination event occurs during the development of B and T lymphocytes. The joining of a V, D, and J segment forms the variable region of an immunoglobulin heavy chain, while a V and J segment join to form a light chain.
