Conscious
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002452
Relating to a state of awareness of oneself and one's environment, including the ability to perceive stimuli and respond to them in a non-reflexive manner. In toxicology and pharmacology, experiments are often conducted on conscious animals to observe the effects of a substance on behavior, motor coordination, and sensory function without the confounding influence of anesthetics. This state contrasts with an unconscious state induced by anesthesia, trauma, or disease.
