Controlled polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002530
A polymerization in which some kinetic feature, such as the rate of initiation, or some structural feature of the chains, such as molar mass, end groups or architecture, is deliberately held under control. In radical and ionic systems this is often achieved by reversible deactivation of the growing chain carriers, as in atom-transfer radical polymerization and RAFT. Living anionic polymerization of styrene gives dispersity near 1.05, whereas ATRP and RAFT give about 1.1 to 1.3.
