Coordinatively saturated complex

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002565

A complex in which the central metal atom or ion has achieved its maximum coordination number, meaning all available coordination sites are occupied by ligands. This state implies that the metal center has no vacant orbitals of suitable energy and symmetry to accept additional electron pairs from incoming ligands. Such complexes are generally stable and less reactive towards ligand substitution.
