Coriolis coupling
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002585
An interaction between the vibrational and rotational motions of a molecule, arising from the Coriolis force experienced by atoms moving in a rotating molecular frame. This coupling can lead to shifts and splittings in rotational energy levels and is observed in high-resolution vibrational spectroscopy. It provides information about molecular structure and dynamics.
