Derivative technique

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003045

A thermal analysis treatment in which the first derivative of a measured signal, taken against temperature or against time, is recorded or calculated, as in the rate of mass loss in derivative thermogravimetry. The derivative curve turns steps into peaks, which separates overlapping events and marks the temperature of fastest change. It is not the same as a differential technique such as DSC or DTA, which measures the difference between a sample and a reference.
