Diagnostic ion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013035

A characteristic ion observed in a mass spectrum that provides specific information about the structure or identity of a compound. This ion often results from a predictable fragmentation pathway or rearrangement. Its presence can confirm the existence of particular functional groups or substructures within the molecule.
