Disintegration energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003292
The total energy released during a specific nuclear decay process, equivalent to the net decrease in rest mass. This energy, symbolized as Q, is calculated from the difference between the total mass of the initial nucleus and the sum of the masses of all the resulting particles. The released energy is partitioned among the decay products as kinetic energy and, in some cases, the energy of emitted gamma rays.
