Disintegration

The breakup of a material into particles below a defined size, a limit usually set by sieving, without implying that the cause is biological. In composting tests the figure is the share of the original dry mass that passes a 2 mm sieve. The compostability standard EN 13432 requires at least 90 percent to pass after 12 weeks.
