Dystectic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003534
A reversible, isobaric transformation in which a solid compound melts to a liquid of exactly the same composition, known as congruent melting. It appears as a maximum on the melting temperature-composition curve, and this maximum, where liquid and solid compositions are equal, is the dystectic point. The compound may be stoichiometric or non-stoichiometric, and Mg2Sn in the Mg-Sn system is an example.
