Conformational melting
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002419
A reversible process where a macromolecule, such as a polymer or biopolymer, transitions from an ordered, compact conformation to a disordered, extended conformation. This change is driven by an increase in temperature or a change in solvent conditions. It is characterized by a cooperative unfolding of the molecular structure.
