Electron stopping power

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003739

The average energy an electron loses per unit distance travelled along its path in a material, written dE/dx. The loss arises from low-energy collisions with atomic electrons and from radiative processes such as X-ray production and the spectral continuum. It is quoted in units such as keV per micrometre, and dividing by the density gives the mass stopping power in MeV cm2 per gram.
