Epitaxy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004037
The growth of a crystalline overlayer on a crystalline substrate, where the crystallographic orientation of the overlayer is determined by that of the substrate. This process involves the ordered deposition of molecules, such as polymer chains, onto a substrate surface, resulting in a well-defined structural relationship between the two materials. Polymer epitaxy can be achieved on substrates like single crystals of salts or highly oriented organic materials.
