Equilibrium partitioning approach

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004067

A methodology used to predict the concentration of a chemical in one environmental compartment based on its concentration in another, assuming the system is at equilibrium. This approach relies on partitioning coefficients, such as the octanol-water partition coefficient, to model the distribution of hydrophobic organic contaminants. It is frequently applied in ecological risk assessments to estimate exposure levels.
