Equilibrium sedimentation in a density gradient
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004070
A technique where macromolecules are centrifuged in a solution containing a gradient of a dense substance, such as cesium chloride, until each species reaches a position where its buoyant density matches the density of the surrounding medium. This method separates macromolecules based on their buoyant density. It is commonly used for the separation of nucleic acids and proteins.
