Equilibrium sedimentation method
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004071
A technique for determining the molar mass and molar mass distribution of macromolecules by centrifuging a solution until a steady state is established. In this state, the sedimentation of molecules due to the centrifugal force is balanced by their diffusion back up the concentration gradient. The concentration profile at equilibrium provides information about the average molar mass and heterogeneity of the polymer sample.
