Sedimentation velocity method
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010655
A technique used to determine the molar mass and hydrodynamic properties of macromolecules by observing their rate of sedimentation in an ultracentrifuge. The sample is subjected to a strong centrifugal field, causing the molecules to move outwards at a rate dependent on their size, shape, and density. This method provides information about the sedimentation coefficient and can be used to analyze polydispersity.
