Sedimentation field strength

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010651

The electric field strength produced along a column of suspension in which charged particles are settling under gravity or in a centrifuge, written E_sed and given in volts per metre. It leaves out the potential steps at the electrodes, so it can be derived in theory but not read from a meter. It underlies the measured sedimentation potential, known as the Dorn effect.
