Sedimentation equilibrium

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010650

A state achieved in an ultracentrifuge where the rate of sedimentation of macromolecules is balanced by their rate of diffusion, resulting in a stable concentration gradient. This method is used to determine the molar mass and thermodynamic properties of polymers in solution. The concentration distribution at equilibrium provides information about the average molar mass and its distribution.
