Equilibrium solubility

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004072

The concentration of a solute in a solution that is saturated and in equilibrium with an excess of the solid solute, at a specified temperature and pressure and, for an ionizable compound, a specified pH. It is reached when dissolution and precipitation proceed at equal rates, and it differs from kinetic solubility, which is measured on a precipitate formed quickly from a stock solution. Intrinsic solubility is the special case for the neutral form of an ionizable compound.
