Supersaturated solution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011608
A solution that contains a greater amount of dissolved solute than would normally be present at equilibrium at a given temperature. This metastable state is achieved by carefully cooling a saturated solution or by evaporating the solvent slowly. Such solutions are unstable and will precipitate the excess solute if disturbed or seeded with a crystal.
