Saturating solute

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010525

A component in a solution that is present at its maximum solubility limit, meaning the solution is saturated with respect to this particular solute. In such a system, the saturating solute is in equilibrium with its undissolved solid phase. Its concentration defines the solubility of that substance under the given conditions.
