Postprecipitation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009310
The phenomenon where a second, less soluble substance slowly precipitates onto the surface of an already formed precipitate after the initial precipitation step. This occurs when the solution is supersaturated with respect to the second substance, and the existing precipitate provides nucleation sites. Postprecipitation can lead to contamination of the desired precipitate in gravimetric analysis.
