Extra risk

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004278

The probability that an exposure produces a response, corrected for the background response that occurs spontaneously, calculated as the risk at the exposure minus the background risk, divided by one minus the background risk. It differs from added (excess) risk, which is the plain difference between the two. For a background risk of 1 in 1,000,000 and an exposed risk of 3 in 1,000,000, the extra risk is about 2 in 1,000,000.
