Relative excess risk

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010142

The proportional increase in risk in an exposed group over the risk in an unexposed group, calculated as the relative risk minus one. It expresses the excess as a multiple of the baseline risk, not as a fraction of the exposed group's own risk, which is the attributable fraction, (RR minus 1) divided by RR. A relative risk of 1.5 gives a relative excess risk of 0.5, meaning exposure raises risk by half over baseline.
