Factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004327
A pure number that links two quantities sharing the same dimension, so that one is the other multiplied by a constant; being a ratio, it has no unit. A factor of 10, for example, scales a value ten-fold, as in the factor of ten often used for interspecies extrapolation in risk assessment. Converting between quantities of different dimensions, such as mass concentration and amount concentration, needs a conversion factor that carries a unit.
