Fecundity

The physiological potential of an organism or population to reproduce, measured as the quantity of gametes (eggs or sperm) produced over a given period. It represents the innate capacity for reproduction, irrespective of whether reproduction actually occurs. Fecundity is distinct from fertility, which is the actual number of viable offspring produced.
