Fission products
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004449
The nuclides formed either directly by nuclear fission or by the subsequent radioactive decay of the initial fission fragments. This complex mixture contains isotopes of elements from the middle of the periodic table, ranging from zinc to the lanthanides. Many fission products are radioactive and contribute significantly to the radioactivity of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste.
