Flash point

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004475

The lowest temperature at which a volatile substance gives off sufficient vapor to form an ignitable mixture with air near its surface. At this temperature, the vapor will briefly ignite when exposed to an external ignition source but will not necessarily continue to burn. The flash point is distinct from the fire point, which is the higher temperature required for sustained combustion.
