Fluorescence-activated cell sorting

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004525

A specialized type of flow cytometry that physically separates a heterogeneous mixture of cells into distinct populations. Cells are stained with fluorescent antibodies and passed in a single file through a laser beam, where their fluorescence and light scattering properties are measured. Based on these measurements, the instrument applies an electrical charge to droplets containing individual cells, deflecting them into separate collection tubes.
