Gradual potential-energy surface
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004982
A descriptor for a potential-energy surface on which the energy climbs slowly as the system moves along the reaction path, in contrast to an abrupt surface where it climbs steeply over a short distance. The terms describe how sharply the energy changes along the path, and they do not concern discontinuities, since the surface is a smooth function of the coordinates in both cases.
