Haptenic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005098
Describing a substance that is capable of binding to specific antibodies but cannot, by itself, induce an immune response. These small molecules require conjugation to a larger carrier protein to become immunogenic and stimulate antibody production. This property is exploited in the development of certain vaccines and diagnostic assays.
